Confidence under pressure ;-)

My sister was looking after Milly whilst I went to an appointment that Milly didn't want to accompany me to.My sister had promised a friend she would give her a lift in to town to do a little shopping. When I got back my sister said that her friend (a teachers wife)must have felt she needed to pack as much info into the car journey as a learning experience for Emily. When she had talked to Emily about a few things on the journey she asked her what she had learnt this week,(bear in mind this is the little girl who when asked that question about school always said"nothing") she answered that she had learnt to bake bread with her Granny, the friend then asked if she had learnt the science of making bread and quick as a flash Milly came back with the fact that we had done an experiment (well remembered because this had been done in the very early days after taking her out of school)with yeast in a bottle blowing up a balloon!! I was so proud of her and happy that she had been so confident under interrogation;-)) I asked how she has felt about it and she said she was a little annoyed but that she hadn't wanted the lady to think she was totally uneducated !!!!;-))

Aw that's lovely! I don't mean a lovely experience for your girl, but just lovely that she had the confidence to stand up to unwelcome interrogation! My kids usually completely button-up when approached in this way, and TBH I don't blame them. On several occasions when we've had the question 'Oh is it a day off school then?' they have just said 'we don't go to school' and left it at that! I should be blase about this by now, but instead I'm usually left red-faced trying to explain that I'm not walking around Tescos with 3 truanting children..!

Hi big mamma frog
When Emily first came out of school she used to get a kick out of letting people know she was home edded but then on a couple of occasions people then asked more in depth questions and she got spooked cos she felt unable to answer so we hatched a plan and if she feels unable to answer she looks at me and I answer for her. I know they probably think I am some pushy mum answering for my poor daughter but better that than Milly loosing confidence because of it:-)

Good for Emily! It can be really hard being put on the spot, whatever your age or education. Cameron and I use that same technique where he looks at me if he needs me to jump in.
