Floods....

Just back on line after an enforced break blogging.Local flooding has caused chaos round these parts, our telephone connection went down on Thursday and has just gone back on again late this afternoon.Slight inconvenience for us, compared to the total disruption to the main street business community, hundreds of houses wrecked by the water, and a policemans life lost trying to keep others safe.

I had an appointment in town on Thursday. The weather was atrocious and had been all day, but not that uncommon around here.As I got into town I realised it was far worse than I had ever seen .I walked along the street to the Trout Hotel which backs on to the River and noticed that the water had risen so high that the picnic tables were under water and the ducks were swimming around the car park.It was still a way from flooding the street though.

I went on to my appointment and as I was having a massage we heard sirens and lots of activity outside.By the time I left, the water was knee deep in parts along the street.I got back to the car with two boots full of water but was lucky I got out when I did because it rose rapidly after that.People had to be air lifted and rescued by boats.

The whole main street is ruined and it could be six months to a year before it is fully open and trading again.

There is never a good time for anything like this to happen but it seems even harsher at this time of year to have lost everything and to be displaced from your home.My thoughts are with all those affected.

How terrible, I hadn't realised you were in that area.
Hoping for some dry weather in your area so it doesn't get worse.
Stay safe x

I find it difficult to comment from the phone (from where I read blogs) and it's taken me this long to get onto the pc. Was thinking about you lots and reassuring myself that you are quite a bit higher up - didn't cross my mind that you may not have been safely at home at the time!

Oh no! That's serious! Glad you got home safely.

A little off topic: Do your massages help with your autoimmune symptoms?

Hi all :-) Many thanks for your good wishes.Things are starting to get back to some normality and roads are open again and people are pulling together to help where they can. I haven't visited main st yet,it will be so strange to see it.

Wit and whimsy i have found the massage to be very helpful, alongside meditation(don't practice that as much as i should do and i am definately better when I do it regularly) and homeopathy.i also have occasional acupuncture.x x

Oh no! What a terrible thing to happen at any time of the year, but especially now. I'm glad you made it out of there!
